The Oasis the city home garden is situated on a long and narrow urban plot with height differences of 7m. The area has been divided into three levels, each serving a distinct purpose. The lowest front garden seamlessly blends the requirements of the conservator with modern garden design. The second level features a rooftop garden built on top of underground structures, utilizing the latest technology for irrigation and drainage. The lawns have been minimized to reduce water consumption, with a small one-hole golf course and a shaded lawn for children.
The realization of the Oasis the city home garden required meticulous planning and execution. The paths, stairs, water features, and finishes of the retaining wall are made of granite slabs, while the road surfaces are paved with small granite blocks. The garden soil was brought in by wheelbarrow, totaling 360m3. Over 1,700 shrubs, including 700 boxwood, and nearly 1,700 perennials were planted. Additionally, thousands of tulip bulbs and pansies are planted each year, adding bursts of color to the garden.
The Oasis the city home garden is not just a static space; it interacts with its surroundings and the smart house technology. In the evening, the garden comes alive with water features, fountains, and carefully placed lighting that highlights different areas. Throughout the year, the garden transforms, with spring blooms giving way to colorful perennials and autumn foliage. The terrace also features vegetable boxes, allowing the owners to grow their own produce.
The project, which began in January 2012 and was completed in May 2014, faced several challenges. The design had to balance the requirements of the conservator with the modern vision of the owner. The garden also had to block views of neighboring buildings and create a sense of tranquility despite its location near a busy street. Construction was hindered by limited access to the rear part of the plot, as well as the need to manually transport trees up stairs.
The Oasis the city home garden is a testament to Agnieszka Hubeny-Zukowska's creativity, technical expertise, and ability to create a harmonious space that connects with nature. This project has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in Landscape Planning and Garden Design, showcasing its outstanding innovation and excellence.
